A horror-comedy Nightbitch set to hit theaters in December
Adams, known for her versatile roles in Sharp Objects and Enchanted, now takes on a surprising role in Nightbitch. Directed by Marielle Heller, the film's first photos were shared by Vanity Fair. Based on Rachel Yoder's novel, Nightbitch features Adams as a stay-at-home mother turning into an animal. "It was so unique and otherworldly," Adams says. The movie explores parenting's monotony and identity loss. The film also stars Scoot McNairy, Zoë Chao, and Mary Holland.
Nightbitch explores the monotony of parenting
And how it can consume one's identity. Adams' character, feeling bored and adrift in her role as a mother, begins noticing inexplicable physical changes, like fur on her back. "I wasn't judging my physical appearance," Adams says of her transformation in the film. "I was just in the character so much." The film delves into themes of motherhood, identity, and transformation, making it both a horror-comedy and a satirical fairy tale. Vanity Fair's Instagram post offers a full look at the forthcoming film. The intriguing premise and Adams' commitment to the role suggest that Nightbitch will be a standout film.
The synopsis of Nightbitch reads: "An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to stay at home with her newborn son, but the experience does not match her imagination. Two years later, she discovers a dense patch of hair on the back of her neck and sharper canines in the mirror. Her husband dismisses her fears from his faraway hotel rooms. As her symptoms intensify, she struggles to keep her new canine identity a secret. Seeking a cure, she discovers a mysterious book, A Field Guide to Magical Women: A Mythical Ethnography, and meets a group of mothers involved in a multilevel-marketing scheme who may be more than they seem." Nightbitch releases on December 6th.
