Vault Hunters, gather 'round! The siren of Pandora

(or wherever we roam next) is getting loud because Borderlands 4 is headed toward its September 12, 2025, release. Vintage Borderlands is all about wild guns, crazier characters, and Gearbox Software's going to unveil some clever new mechanics that could fundamentally change how we play the game – and catalogue all our elements. Forget old-school loading systems; there's something smarter coming.

The Smart Method to Change

Borderlands 4's Gear Tagging System
We've all been there: countless legendary guns, shields, and relics, and switching them out for particular encounters has become a mini-game in itself. Fans have asked for long enough for a proper loadout system, and while Borderlands 4 won't have a simple "Loadout 1 Loadout 2" button, Creative Director Graeme Timmins has confirmed a fantastic, more flexible option in gear-tagging.

Envision this: you will soon be able to create custom tags for all your favorite pieces of gear

For example, “Raid Build”, “Boss Slayer”, “Mob Clear”, and even “That one gun for when I just want to melt everything”. No longer will you be marking ‘junk’ or ‘favourites’; you will now be able to do dynamic filtering and on-the-fly filtering of your entire inventory. Want to go from a single-target boss killer one second to an area-of-effect crowd clearer the next? Just filter by your custom tags and pick what you need. This offers much more fluidity and intuitiveness to the experience and will promote players to play with many more diverse builds than ever before. It may not be an outright loadout system, but for the more established Vault Hunters, it might be even better!

Framing The Chaos: Photo Mode Available Post-Launch

For those that want to encapsulate all the vibrant, often absurd beauty from the Borderlands universe, there's also great news coming. Timmins also communicated that a photo mode will be added down the line in Borderlands 4. As a note, it won't be available on launch day – Gearbox has promised to focus only on the core gameplay experience. But you rest assured knowing that you'll be able to pause the action and take incredible, high-fidelity screenshots.

Price, Editions, and community reactions

There has been no shortage of community content leading up to Borderlands 4. After the initial discussion about the price, we now have confirmation of an official price for the Standard Edition: $69.99. This pricing looks to be in line with the many other major new releases today.
There has also been much discussion surrounding the "Echo-4 Bundle", most notably the contents of the impressive physical collectibles, including the Echo-4 statuette, but it is important to note this $150 bundle does not include a copy of the game itself. Some reactions seem mixed, mainly due to the fact that fans have to purchase the game separately.
