Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Campaign Rumors – Mind Control is Back?
“Can’t remember last night? Awesome. You’ll fit right in.”
That could be the tagline for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, because apparently, memory loss and mind games are back (and we don’t mean players forgetting to reload mid-fight).
The internet is awash with leaks, hearsay, and vague tweets indicating the next iteration in the Black Ops campaign makes psychological warfare, Cold War nostalgia, and bizarre narrative tropes magical again.
So let’s take a look at everything that seems to be simmering in the Treyarch conspiracy pot.
Speculated Campaign Features
- Amnesia Trope: The main character could possibly experience amnesia, potentially indicating another return of mind control aspects.
- Few Protagonist Options: Players may control different protagonists, gaining distinct views through the campaign.
- Cold War '90s: The experience may take place during the Gulf War or post-CW geopolitical period.
- Psychological Operations: There may be quotations and psychedelic fever dreams much like the "numbers" missions in Black Ops 1.
- Longer Campaign: Leaks have indicated a 7–10 hour campaign that will be relatively long for a Call of Duty campaign today.
- Zombies Tie-In: There may be some elements of the story that will share and allude to overlap or connection to the Zombies story.
The Return of “Numbers, Mason!”
If the rumours have a hint of truth, Black Ops 7 appears to be taking a step back into that "numbers station" mysterious vibe that made the original Black Ops so iconic (and confusing, in the most absolute best way).
Fans are already getting their red yarn and bulletin boards ready.
And honestly, who wouldn't be excited? This franchise has not had a full-blown brain-hack bonanza in a long time. It's about time.
Who's Making It?
According to all reports I've seen, Treyarch is developing the campaign while Raven Software is collaborating. Not shocking; both of these developers are the OG masterminds behind several of the Black Ops.
If they are trying to go back to the Cold War mindset but with modern technology, expect consciousness-shattering flashbacks, re-victimised interrogation scenes, and "twists" that will even have M. Night Shyamalan saying, "Whoa, whoa, calm down!"
Why Are Fans Divided?
Not surprisingly, players are divided. Some players are pumped for the campaign and feel the main emphasis is more story-based. Whereas others are rolling their eyes at the “Amnesia Hero” trope.
User @SoapOnTheRogue states,
"If I hear 'You were never in control' one more time, I'm deleting the game."
But, I think, curiosity gets the better of us all. I think we all want to figure out what happens next in this web of deception and intrigue.
