Fan Art Gives David Dastmalchian's M. Bison a Menacing Makeover for Street Fighter Film
With news of casting announcements dropping regularly for Sony and Legendary's upcoming Street Fighter film, one of the most talked about casting decisions belongs to David Dastmalchian's much-beloved villain, M. Bison. The casting announcement received mixed reactions from fans, and there was a certain portion of fans who didn't have faith in Dastmalchian to capture Bison's character, but a piece of fan art from the ever-so-popular BossLogic could help change some minds.
BossLogic's Vision of Bison Calms Fan Concerns
Even BossLogic said after the news broke and the art was created that he needed to be sold on Dastmalchian's ability to portray the tyrannical leader, which is why BossLogic created a terrific-looking fan art version of Dastmalchian transformed into M. Bison. The fantastic fan art shared on social media showed Dastmalchian's Bison suited in Bison's red military uniform with the infamous cap and that distinct fully white left eye, with Bison's character coming right out of the video games.
Fans reaction to BossLogic's art was mostly positive from the immediate reaction to it, and it looks like a lot of fans who were skeptical of Dastmalchian's casting, now feel way more at ease seeing how Dastmalchian is able to lend himself to a character of that stature. This is a clear-cut case of seeing something visually can help bridge the gap between a casting choice that could be interpreted as surprising and fan scepticism.
Even More Possibilities for Fan Art and a Stacked Roster
In less than a week, the Street Fighter movie's cast has expanded considerably with a selection of actors playing fan-favourites from the franchise. Along with Dastmalchian's Bison, Andrew Koji will be Ryu, Noah Centineo will be Ken, Jason Momoa will be Blanka, Orville Peck will be Vega, Andrew Schulz will be Dan, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson will be Balrog, and Roman Reigns will be Akuma. Even Eric Andre has been rumoured to play the ring announcer.
With the success of the M. Bison artwork, fans are now looking forward to seeing BossLogic (or other equally talented artists) create artwork of more unorthodox casting like Orville Peck as Vega and Jason Momoa in all of his Blanka glory, since it would address and ease concerns and expectations about this highly anticipated project. Rumours of possible other character cameos (such as Guile, Cammy, Sagat, etc.) have suggested that this might be a much bigger mess of the Street Fighter cinematic universe.
