Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
The first of many to come from Hideo Kojima, it represents the trademark complex storytelling found in video games, revealing mystery after mystery about Sam, his past and Neil, the new character. This was a launch pad for Death Stranding 3.
The story begins with Sam in hiding with Lou
Sam's former bridge baby. After a terrible accident, he is plunged into a dark, alternate world where Sam meets Neil. Neil was a former porter who was involved in a program that turned babies into bridge babies. Sam learns later that Neil is involved with Lucy, Sam's wife, who lied to Neil about the paternity of their child so she could protect her from Bridges, and they possibly would have an interest in Sam's powers.
The Climax and Revelations:
Higgs, the antagonist of the story, captures Tomorrow, a young girl with accelerated ageing abilities, demonstrating that she is Sam's biological daughter. After the pivotal battle, Higgs is defeated. The game then does a flashback, showing Neil and Lucy being killed by Bridges security after attempting to escape. We learn that Lucy's foetus is retrieved for the BB programme and Neil's body is used to perform a voidout.
It is revealed that Fragile died after protecting Lou
At the beginning of the game, she used her teleportation to relocate the baby to a safe placement. Lou is brought to another world, in which the time period is not the same, and she grows up as Tomorrow. We also learn that Sam's biological child is Lou, or Tomorrow. They experience the reunion as father and daughter and embrace that they are family.
Setting Up Death Stranding 3
Post-credits scenes suggest Tomorrow's future as a porter, travelling with Lou's old BB container as mementos. She approaches a "plate gate", a sort of continental teleportation device, alluding to new adventures. It also adds a potential way for her to control the ageing process.
Hideo Kojima has mentioned that he has concepts for more games, but that he is considering letting someone else direct Death Stranding 3. The existence of the plate gates also opens the stage for new settings, and clearly Tomorrow is set up to be a potential playable character in future chapters, thus really leaving the door wide open for the Death Stranding saga.
