You're in luck, Have you heard the news?
Rockstar Games just announced an update with fantastic indications that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Grand Theft Auto VI, may just stay on course with its release window. After an originally promised release in 2025 followed by a glitchy release date of May, 2026, we were all worried about what that would mean in terms of release dates. Now it appears that Rockstar is taking the steps it needs to take to convey that they believe in that date, and may have already started chomping away at the long list of work needed to release the darn thing.
Rockstar Games Steps Up Global Marketing
Rockstar Games is notoriously secretive, so anytime the curtain is pulled back even partially, it's worth noting. In its latest update, Rockstar revealed that they are beginning the hiring process for a variety of global marketing positions. These are no ordinary jobs, as they will be specifically and directly responsible for localizing the game marketing campaign in key international markets covering languages such as Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish (Spain & Latin America), and Chinese (Both Simplified & Traditional).
What is telling with these hires is the 12-month contract length. This really suggests to me that Rockstar is going to step-up a marketing blitz over the next year, and they intend for these campaigns to end some time around Summer 2026. Developer advertising won't mean anything to audiences if Rockstar were going to invest so heavily in such temporal positions (and very specialized talent) if they didn't believe they would have the deliverable (aka the game) ready to ship for its May 2026 launch. After May, keeping these people longer than you need them is just a huge expense, and corporate entities try to avoid such situations if they can.
A Strong Indicator for the May 2026 Release
While contracts can be extended at any time, this global marketing campaign is time sensitive with a targeted launch in mind. They wouldn’t have pushed this out without commitment on Rockstar’s part. We, as fans, have also been understandably skeptical ever since the disastrous 2022 hack that gave us a glimpse of what might have been an underwhelming preview of GTA 6 and the ominous 2025 release date that eventually shifted to May of 2026. However, this hiring spree is certainly a good indication that Rockstar is backing up its plans.
It is difficult to predict any company's future hiring decisions, but the sheer investment in localized positions indicates a little bit more confidence in the May 2026 release date for GTA 6. The game seems so much closer now!
