Secret Level Animated Series Still Set to Feature Concord Episode Despite Game Shutdown

Though PlayStation has recently discontinued its multiplayer shooter Concord, Prime Video’s Secret Level series will reportedly still move forward with its planned episode based on the game. This decision comes as a surprise, as Concord had been in service for just a short time, releasing on August 23rd, before PlayStation pulled the plug due to its lackluster reception and small player base. Nonetheless, Secret Level, an animated anthology series, remains committed to including Concord in its first season. According to sources close to IGN, the episode is still slated for release when the series premieres on December 10th.

Secret Level, which was officially announced at Gamescom

Is an anthology that draws inspiration from various video game franchises, both old and new. The show’s lineup includes well-established classics like Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Armored Core, as well as more recent titles like Sifu and The Outer Worlds. Given that Concord was an untested game at the time of the announcement, some saw the decision to base an episode on it as a gamble. Now, with the game already discontinued, that choice appears even more questionable.

Despite this, there is still time before the series debuts, leaving room for possible changes to the production lineup. Whether the episode is already finished or nearing completion remains uncertain, but it's clear that keeping it in the show would be a nod to Concord’s small but loyal fan base. For those uninterested, the anthology format ensures that viewers can easily skip the episode without missing any overarching storyline.

Blur Studio, the production company behind Secret Level

Is also responsible for Netflix’s acclaimed series Love, Death + Robots. Blur was co-founded by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, who will serve as the creator and creative director for Secret Level. With 15 episodes planned for its first season, Secret Level represents a broader push by Amazon to tap into the potential of video game-inspired media. Alongside Secret Level, Amazon is also working on several other video game-related projects, including adaptations of Fallout, Tomb Raider, and Like a Dragon: Yaku

Concord: A Flop in the Making

As the countdown to the Secret Level premiere continues, fans are left to wonder whether the Concord episode will indeed make the final cut. Should the episode be included, it may offer a bittersweet farewell for those who enjoyed the brief life of Concord. Otherwise, the episode's exclusion could be a safer move for the series, given the game’s untimely end. Either way, Secret Level is shaping up to be an exciting project that celebrates the rich history and influence of video games.

What do you think? Should the Concord episode be left in, or is it better off being removed from Secret Level?
