Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe: First Details Emerge

Ubisoft announces its new Assassin's Creed title, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, will be a darker and more supernatural title than previous installments.

A New Direction for Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe was announced along with Assassin's Creed Codename Red in 2022. Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe is being produced by Ubisoft Montreal under Clint Hocking. Codename Hexe is moving away from RPG mechanics and will have a more linear path but still contain aspects of open-world gameplay .

Setting and Protagonist

Codename Hexe is set during the 16th-century witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire and stars Elsa, a female protagonist avenging her mother, who was executed on accusations of witchcraft. Elsa has rumored supernatural powers; she has the ability to possess animals like cats to help with stealth and avoiding detection.

Gameplay Mechanics

Codename Hexe is expected to implement a "Fear System" similar to the one used in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, where players can instill fear in enemies by using unique actions and having that enemy flee or respond in disgrace.
