How significant will Geralt's role be in The Witcher 4? This is the question on every Witcher fan's mind as CD Projekt Red remains tight-lipped about the upcoming installment in the beloved series. Although the game has yet to receive an official title, it's commonly referred to as "The Witcher 4," following the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With little information released, fans are left speculating about who they will play as in this next adventure. While many believe a new character will take center stage, recent hints from Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle, suggest that the iconic Witcher may still make an appearance—though his role might be more limited than in previous games.

In a recent video posted on the Fall Damage YouTube channel

Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt of Rivia, participated in a segment where he revisited and reenacted some of his famous lines from various Witcher games. During the video, around the 7-minute mark, the conversation shifted to the highly anticipated Witcher 4, and Cockle appeared to confirm that Geralt would indeed feature in the game.

"The Witcher 4 has been announced," Cockle stated

"I can't reveal much about it. What we know is that Geralt will be in the game, but we're not sure how prominent his role will be. The game won't center around Geralt this time, so it's not primarily about him. The protagonist remains a mystery."

Cockle's comments have only fueled speculation, as even he admits that he's unsure about the details—or perhaps he's just not allowed to share them. "I'm eager to find out," he added. "I haven't seen the script yet, and even if I had, I couldn't tell you. I could be misleading you... but I'm not... or am I?"

As it stands

CD Projekt Red has not officially confirmed whether Geralt will appear in The Witcher 4, but there are two prevailing theories among fans. The first is that a new protagonist will take the reins, ushering in a fresh perspective in the Witcher universe. The second is that Geralt will still play some role, albeit a smaller one compared to his starring roles in the previous games. Cockle's remarks suggest that while Geralt might not be the focus this time around, his presence will still be felt, which is a comforting thought for longtime fans of the series.

This latest development adds another layer of intrigue to The Witcher 4, known internally at CD Projekt Red as "Polaris." Alongside this project, the developer is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, currently referred to as "Project Orion." As we await more concrete details, one thing is clear: the Witcher saga is far from over, and Geralt's journey may continue in ways we have yet to imagine.
